My Story: Help Save Our Family Motel Dream
Dear friends and kind strangers,
I hope this message finds you well.
About three years ago – in the relentless 120-degree sun of Desert City, Blythe, CA – my life changed forever. When I bought this motel, the previous owner cheated us. According to law, you need to have a drain in the pool, which there was none. We did not know that and could not check because there was water in the pool during purchase. We trusted the owner. But when we were cleaning the pool, the water was removed by a sump pump, and that is when the city inspector had come to check the pool when they found there was no working drain. The city had told us to get that drain installed, or they would shut down the motel which I could not afford to have the motel shut down. Long story short, I had to scramble and hire people to get the plumbing done. This was in July 2020 time frame when the temp. Soars to 120 degrees in Blythe, CA. I had to supervise the work in that heat, and that is how I was exposed to 3rd degree radiation burn. I have posted the wound pictures and doctors' reports for cataracts. The wounds are healing up slowly. Pictures are a thousand words. So,While working on our motel pool – trying to keep our small business alive – I suffered devastating third-degree radiation burns on my legs. What began as a normal workday turned into a painful fight with severe ulcers and blisters – stealing my ability to walk or even drive.
Since then, my health struggles have only grown. Recently, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes – now, I'm living in uncertainty – waiting for my vision to fade enough so my surgeon can perform the much-needed operation and restore my sight. The pain and worry are constant companions.
COVID struck us hard – construction projects went wrong, disabilities stacked up, and now my working capital is exhausted. I tried everything – visiting banks, pleading with lenders, even pitching to venture capitalists. All doors closed. The irony is – big investors pour millions into failed ventures – yet someone working honestly to create local jobs and uplift our community cannot get a helping hand.
So I turned to the last hope – crowdfunding and the kindness of people like you. I poured my heart and every ounce of energy into building this motel – without borrowing a single dollar. My American dream was real. But now, disability and financial hardship threaten to take away everything my family and I have worked for.
I'm not giving up – despite my physical challenges, I’m doing everything possible to bring new guests and business to our motel. My mission is to keep our doors open – providing shelter, jobs, and hope to our town.
